SWATARA TOWNSHIP ACQUIRES ADDITIONAL PARK LAND
Swatara Township has recently acquired a total of fifty-three (53) acres of recreation open space. The first tract purchased was six (6) acres located right beside the Swatara Middle School football field, known as the Bishop Tract. Two full-size basketball courts along with a sixteen-space parking lot and totlot is planned for the parcel.
A fourteen (14) acre park was purchased at about the same time and is located in the far eastern section of the Township. Schiavoni Park abuts the Swatara Creek. Plans for this park include a boat launch, soccer field, picnic pavilion, nature trail and parking lot.
In addition to the Bridge Road purchase, Swatara Township has accepted a parcel from The McNaughton Company for thirty-three (33) acres, also located along the Swatara Creek. This parcel is located in what we call Fiddler's Elbow.
